Tea Ceremony Experience at Narita International Culture Hall

We recently had the pleasure of hosting a matcha tea ceremony experience at Narita International Culture Hall in Narita City, Chiba — as part of a team-building event for an international company.

The group consisted of 20 participants from a wide range of countries, including members from the US, Europe, and across Asia. It was a truly multicultural gathering, and a wonderful setting for an authentic Japanese cultural experience.

How the Session Unfolded

Arriving to find tea bowls and chasen (bamboo whisks) neatly arranged on tatami mats, participants settled in as our instructor introduced the cultural background of the tea ceremony and the basics of matcha preparation.

Then came the hands-on part: each guest picked up a chasen and whisked their own bowl of matcha. Some moved carefully, some enthusiastically — but everyone was fully engaged. The concentration in the room was something special.

Once their matcha was ready, guests enjoyed it alongside traditional Japanese wagashi sweets, and for a moment, the room felt like a genuine Japanese tea space.

“I Always Wanted to Try This”

After the session, one participant shared something that stayed with us:

“The tea ceremony always seemed like something out of reach — I never felt like I could just walk in and do it. I’m so glad I finally got to experience it today.”

This is something we hear often, and it’s exactly why we do what we do. Tea ceremony can feel intimidating from the outside — formal, unfamiliar, rule-heavy. But in practice, first-timers are warmly welcomed, and the experience tends to feel grounding and genuinely enjoyable rather than stressful.

Across languages and cultures, there’s something quietly powerful about preparing a bowl of matcha with your own hands. That’s the moment we love most.
