In September 2026, GreenTeaTokyo hosted a mobile matcha tea experience booth at an international business conference held at a hotel in Roppongi, Tokyo.
The event brought together many attendees from overseas in an exhibition-style format, and our booth welcomed a total of 30 guests across 5 sessions.
Set up so guests could drop by casually during conference breaks, the booth offered a moment to pause and connect with Japanese culture in between meetings and networking.
A hands-on matcha experience at the conference venue
Rather than simply watching an instructor perform a tea ceremony, this experience was designed as a hands-on session where each guest whisked their own bowl of matcha.
After a brief introduction from our instructor, guests took turns whisking matcha with a chasen (bamboo whisk) and enjoying their freshly made bowl alongside a Japanese sweet.
For those trying matcha for the first time, we focus less on memorizing formal etiquette and more on the experience itself — the taste, the aroma, and the feel of whisking.
Even guests who had tasted matcha before but never whisked it themselves found the hands-on experience made Japanese culture feel more approachable and personal.
English support for international guests
Since many attendees were visiting from overseas, we brought English-speaking staff to guide the experience.
Our staff explained the whisking technique and use of the chasen in English, and answered guests’ questions along the way.
Simple questions like “How is matcha made?” or “Why use a bamboo whisk?” came up naturally, and we made sure guests felt comfortable asking anything in the moment.
At international events, some guests are interested in Japanese culture but hesitant, assuming the etiquette will be too complex. At GreenTeaTokyo, our goal isn’t to teach formal tea ceremony — it’s to give people a genuine first taste of matcha that sparks a lasting interest in Japanese culture.
An instructor in kimono brought a touch of Japan to the venue
Our instructor wore a kimono throughout the event, adding a distinctly Japanese atmosphere to the booth and the wider venue.
At a large international business conference, the booth offered guests a welcome contrast to their usual work routine — a small window into Japanese culture.
Guests were also welcome to take photos after their experience, capturing not just the matcha itself but the kimono and tea utensils that completed the atmosphere.
Bringing a moment of Japanese culture into business events
Conferences and exhibitions are packed with networking, meetings, and seminars.
Adding a short matcha experience into the mix creates something different from an ordinary break — a genuine moment to enjoy Japanese culture.
For international guests especially, matcha isn’t just something to talk about; it’s something to experience directly, by whisking and tasting it themselves.
GreenTeaTokyo offers mobile matcha experiences tailored to a wide range of settings, including hotel events, corporate parties, exhibitions, conferences, and MICE events. Beyond the booth format used here, we can adjust the content and staffing to fit your group size, venue, and event goals.
“We want international guests to experience Japanese culture.”
