Welcoming 80 International Guests with Matcha: A Teishu-Style Case Study at Hotel New Otani

GreenTeaTokyo recently hosted a matcha tea experience for approximately 80 international guests at Hotel New Otani. For an event of this scale, we proposed a served-style matcha service (what we call teishu-style in Japanese) as the core format, allowing many guests to enjoy matcha smoothly and courteously within a limited time.

What Is Served-Style Matcha Service

茶道講師

In this format, our instructor prepares the matcha and serves it to guests in turn, rather than having each guest whisk their own bowl.

This allows us to serve a large number of guests efficiently, making it well suited to events on the scale of 80 people.

For this event, we also offered an optional hands-on experience, so guests who wished to try whisking their own matcha could do so alongside the served-style service.

Paper Cups for Welcome Drink Service

Depending on the venue layout and event format, we also offer a simplified paper-cup service.

This makes matcha easy to enjoy even in standing-reception settings or at a lobby welcome point, where serving from traditional tea bowls isn’t practical. It works especially well as a welcome drink guests can enjoy on their way in.

Flexible for Hotels and Large Corporate Events

From small private tea ceremonies to large-scale events like this 80-guest gathering, GreenTeaTokyo tailors the combination of served-style service, hands-on experience, and welcome-drink format to fit each event’s scale and needs.

In Summary

For large groups, combining served-style matcha service with a simplified paper-cup format allows many guests to experience Japanese culture even within a tight schedule.

Whether for a hotel welcome drink or a corporate reception, matcha offers a memorable way to greet your guests.
