In 2025, GreenTeaTokyo visited Pullman Tokyo Tamachi to deliver a matcha experience and calligraphy workshop for international business professionals.
For one special afternoon, the hotel’s elegant space transformed into a place to explore Japanese culture firsthand.
What We Offered
Matcha Experience
We combined two styles of matcha service at this event.
① Hands-on whisking experience
After a short introduction from our instructor, each participant picked up a chasen (bamboo whisk) and prepared their own bowl of matcha.
This was served alongside kohakuto — a traditional Japanese wagashi sweet made from agar and sugar, crystalline on the outside and soft within.
② Buffet-style matcha bar
We also set up a counter where guests could help themselves to matcha and kohakuto at their own pace.
This format created a relaxed atmosphere ideal for networking and casual conversation.

Calligraphy Experience
Participants first had a chance to practice freely on washi paper, getting a feel for the brush and ink.
The highlight of the session: a personalized shikishi (square calligraphy board) as a gift.
For each guest, we selected kanji characters that match the sounds of their name, wrote them on a shikishi board, and paired it with a card explaining the meaning in English.
Each piece was written by hand by our instructor — a one-of-a-kind souvenir to take home.
For international guests, seeing their own name in kanji — with meaning — tends to leave a lasting impression.
